Bank Holiday In Maharashtra For Eid-e-Milad, RBI Announces New Date
Bank holiday in Maharashtra changed for Eid-e-Milad 2024, with a new date and its impact on banking services across the state.

New Date for Eid-e-Milad Holiday in Maharashtra: The Maharashtra government has made a notable adjustment to the holiday schedule in Mumbai. The Eid-e-Milad celebration, originally set for September 16, 2024, will now take place on September 18, 2024, to avoid conflict with another significant event. In response, the Reserve Bank of India has also revised its holiday plans for the same date.

Reasons Behind the Holiday Date Change

The Maharashtra government has rescheduled the Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai from September 16, 2024, to September 18, 2024, due to overlap with Ganesh immersion. Following the decision, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also cancelled the September 16, 2024 holiday.

“The Government of Maharashtra has declared September 18, 2024 as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881,” RBI stated in a press release.

RBI added that the public holiday on September 16, 2024 declared earlier has been cancelled.

Accordingly, there will be no transactions and settlements in Government securities, foreign exchange, money markets and rupee interest rate derivatives on September 18, 2024.

“Settlement of all outstanding transactions due on September 18, 2024 (Wednesday) will get postponed to the next working day, i.e., September 19, 2024 (Thursday),” RBI stated in a press release.
