Kannada filmmaker Duniya Suri is known for his realistic treatment of cinema. He has many hit films to his credit, of which the 2007 movie Duniya must be mentioned because the success of that movie earned him the moniker ‘Duniya’. The filmmaker had done a course in visual arts from Kalamandira School of Arts and his expertise and finesse in the arts is seen well in his films. With just his second film Inthi Ninna Preethiya, he reminded critics of the filmmaking style of K Balachander.
Duniya Suri has also collaborated with the late Puneeth Rajkumar in three popular films Jackie, Anna Bond and Doddmane Hudga. All three were action films and greatly benefited Puneeth Rajkumar’s career. Did you know that a sequel to the 2010
film Jackie was planned by Suri and Puneeth but never made ultimately? It got shelved at a very early stage.
According to reports, after the huge success of Jackie, Puneeth Rajkumar offered Suri a chance to direct him once again in a sequel to Jackie. Puneeth was keen on a sequel and requested Suri to read a script. Suri agreed and then started the scripting process of the film which was titled Jackie 2.
However, Suri later stated that as much as he tried, he could come up with a story weaving around the characters introduced in Jackie. He said that he could not come up with a single line and instead called up Puneeth and suggested scrapping the idea for Jackie 2 and doing something new and different instead.
The resulting film was Anna Bond, a movie which paired Puneeth with Priyamani. The film, however, could not replicate the huge success of Jackie and did just moderately well. Their next collaboration together was Doddmane Hudga which fared much better than Anna Bond. A sequel to Doddmane Hudga was also in its initial stage but all ended with Puneeth’s untimely demise in October 2021. Suri’s upcoming film is titled Bad Manners which stars Abhishek Ambareesh and Rachita Ram.
