Mahindra's Verito Makes a Comeback, Goes Electric
Mahindra eVerito has a range of 110 km and a top speed of 86 km/h.

With mounting concerns over the ever-increasing level of pollution in the country, Electric Vehicles (EV) are being seen as the future of automotive industry. Automakers like Tesla are already making the most of it. Unfortunately, EVs are not so popular in India because of the absence of a proper infrastructure to support the charging process of these cars and the price tag that they come with (we are looking at you Toyota Prius and BMW i8).

Mahindra’s e2o is one of the first EV that comes to mind when we talk about zero-emission cars in India, and now it has an elder sibling, a proper sedan named Mahindra eVerito which has starting price tag of Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi, post state subsidy and FAME subsidy).

Powered by a 72V 3-phase AC induction motor, the car puts out 41 horsepower and 91 Nm of torque, which is available at the touch of the pedal since it’s an electric drivetrain. Mahindra claims that the eVerito is capable of achieving a top speed of 86 km/h and has a driving range of 110 km on a full charge. The battery can be charged through a 15 Amp plug point, and according the company, takes 8 hours to charge completely, and has a running cost of Rs 1.15/km (considering cost of electricity to be Rs 7/unit. The car needs 18 units for full charge, and has a claimed range of 110 km)

What will be interesting to see is how Mahindra’s latest offering performs in the Indian market. The e2o was a good electric car, but had way more limitations when it came to practicality, as compared the eVerito, which is full blown sedan that can sit 5 people and has a 510 litre boot capacity.

The pricing is definitely on the higher side, but it is the only one in that price segment.
