Indian Haj Pilgrims Can Now Travel From Jeddah To Makkah Via This High-Speed Train
In collaboration with Saudi authorities, the Indian Consulate General in Jeddah has arranged for around 32,000 Indian Hajis to travel on this high-speed train.

Indian pilgrims arriving at Jeddah Airport for Hajj now have a smoother journey ahead as they can hop onto the Haramain High-Speed Train to reach Makkah.

Earlier, pilgrims used buses, but this year, the Consulate General of India in Jeddah, along with Saudi authorities, arranged for around 32,000 Indian Hajis to travel on this speedy rail service.

This initiative promises a comfortable ride and cuts travel time in half compared to buses. The train, reaching speeds of up to 300 km/h, marks a significant improvement in pilgrimage logistics, enhancing the overall experience.

According to Hindustan Times, the inaugural journey on May 26 was attended by key officials including Indian Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan and Consul General Mohd Shahid Alam. They joined the first group of Indian pilgrims on the train from Jeddah Airport to Makkah, marking a historic moment for both Indian and Saudi authorities.

“This is not just a first for Indian pilgrims but also for Saudi authorities transporting Hajis by train from Jeddah Airport to Makkah,” said Ambassador Khan, highlighting the collaborative effort between Indian and Saudi authorities.

Accompanied by Eng. Al Harbi, Vice President of Saudi Arabian Railways, and other officials, the pilgrims arrived on a Saudia Air flight from Mumbai. The Indian consulate in Jeddah has been actively ensuring the smooth operation of this facility.

This year, out of 175,000 Indian Hajis, 140,000 will be facilitated by the Haj Committee of India, with the rest traveling through private tour operators.
