With an aim to notify passengers about the nearest metro station, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has recently installed bi-directional signage at 41 railway stations in and around the national capital.
As per the officials, a metro station is located within a two-kilometer radius of each of these railway stations and these signages will help the Indian railways passengers to find them.
As per a report by The Times Of India , this initiative follows DMRC’s collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which now allows customers to buy metro tickets via its official website. “This can be helpful. The metro stations are within a 2-kilometer radius of these 41 railway stations. The signage has been installed as many passengers from Delhi and outside may not be aware that there is a station nearby,” an official told the publication.
The report suggests that near Tilak Bridge railway station, signage pointing towards the ITO metro station has been installed. Similarly, at Patel Nagar railway station, the DMRC signage directs passengers to Satguru Ram Singh Marg metro station. Apart from the railway stations, the DMRC has installed 71 bi-directional signage at colleges, schools and corporate offices to help the passengers.
Earlier this month, the DMRC joined hands with the Indian Railways and the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) to promote the One India-One Ticket initiative for passengers. Under this, the Delhi metro travellers can book tickets from the IRCTC website or mobile application. This initiative by the DMRC and IRCTC will allow passengers to book Metro tickets while travelling by train and they don’t need to stand in a separate line to buy a token.
The metro tickets, which were previously only valid for one day only, may now be booked up to 120 days in advance and are valid for four days, making travel planning easier. The official statement issued by DMRC read, “The metro tickets will be valid for a single journey for four days beginning with the day before the DMRC journey date, the travel date itself, and two days after the journey date.”
