Delhi Airport: Over 120 Flights Delayed Due to Dense Fog, Chaos Hits Other Major Indian Cities
Dense fog disrupts flights in Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, causing delays and diversions. Passengers face challenges amid low visibility.

Dense fog disrupted flights in major cities like New Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Hyderabad on Monday, causing low visibility and delays.

Passengers took to social media to complain about disruptions, with airlines like IndiGo and SpiceJet informing travelers about the visibility challenges, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport faced the brunt, with eight flights diverted to Jaipur and Ahmedabad as thick fog reduced visibility to zero in parts of the national capital. The Delhi airport issued a passenger advisory urging them to contact airlines for the latest flight information, especially for non-CAT III compliant flights.

More than 120 flights at Delhi Airport faced delays until 10 AM today due to dense fog, affecting 55 domestic departures, 39 domestic arrivals, 17 international departures, and 12 international arrivals. Additionally, five flights were diverted to Jaipur due to foggy conditions. Two specific flights, one from SpiceJet and one from IndiGo, were among those redirected to Jaipur.

CAT III, an anti-fog landing system, became crucial as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported zero visibility since 5:30 am at the Delhi airport, with parts of the city experiencing only 125 meters of visibility.

Bengaluru woke up to a fog-covered city, leading to the diversion of two Hyderabad-bound Vistara flights. Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport also faced delays due to low visibility.

Beyond flights, Punjab’s Bathinda witnessed thick fog, causing commuter inconveniences and an increased risk of accidents, as reported by ANI. In Haryana, a roadways bus collided with a trolley near Ashrafgarh Dauri village, injuring several passengers, with dense fog cited as a contributing factor.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very dense fog across the country until January 2. Various states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi, are expected to experience challenging fog conditions on specific dates.

As the nation grapples with fog-related challenges, travelers are advised to stay updated on flight information and exercise caution on the roads during these weather conditions.
