Shubman Gill was at the Narendra Modi Stadium “around 11 am” and had a decent hour-long hit in the nets. As CricketNext had reported this morning, Gill has finally resumed training after staying away from action for more than a week.
Local Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) officials informed that Gill dropped in “around 11 am” and batted for nearly an hour. Some throw-down specialists accompanied the India opener and he had a proper hit – not gentle knocking with the bat.
“Shubman Gill was here in the morning and he did bat around one hour. Not many people were around when he was batting and he left the premises moment he was done with the hit,” says a GCA official.

The ground-staff at the venue was informed about Gill’s arrival in the morning only and prepared the corner-most wicket of the nets area for the right-hander.
“We were told about it in morning and we prepared the net for Shubman Gill. We were not inside when he was batting but could hear the sound of the bat,” says a curator, who was chilling on his automated roller hours before Pakistan net gets underway in the same area.
Only the net where Gill batted was baking under the sun while the others remained covered. The few security guards manning the entry and exit gates of the training area saw Gill get in and out of the nets and heard sweet sound of the bat when he was inside.
The 24-year-old, who is recovering from dengue, arrived in Ahmedabad from Chennai last night. He didn’t travel with the team to Delhi, where India played Afghanistan, and stayed back in Chennai where he had to be hospitalised for a night as a “precautionary measure”.
The youngster’s platelet count had dropped below 1,00,000 so the medical didn’t want to take any chance and kept him under specialist care. He was later discharged and continued with treatment and recovery in his hotel room.
As CricketNext has been constantly reporting, Gill continues to make good progress and it now remains to be seen whether he recovers in time for the high-profile game against Pakistan on October 14.
