Pat Cummins became the fourth Australian captain to lift the ODI World Cup after his team trounced India in the final on Sunday. A day after achieving the historic feat at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Cummins enjoyed a memorable day out on a luxurious cruise at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad. After every World Cup, it has been a tradition for the winning captain to pose for photographs with the coveted trophy.
As the final was in Ahmedabad his time, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to hold the mandatory photoshoot in front of the Atal Pedestrian Bridge on the Sabarmati River.
The triangular truss bridge was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August last year and its design is inspired by kites. Apart from Cummins and some ICC officials, several paparazzi were present on the river cruise, which was specially decorated to celebrate Australia’s record-extending sixth ODI World Cup triumph.

The best frames of the “iconic” photo shoot were dropped on the official X account of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The caption of the post read, “Champion skipper Pat Cummins’ memorable day out with his prized possession at the Atal Pedestrian Bridge, Sabarmati Riverfront.”
In the pictures, Pat Cummins was seen smilingly holding the World Cup trophy on his lap. A video of the photo session was shared by the Asian News International (ANI) on the microblogging platform.

Be it with his captaincy or by producing early damage with the ball, Pat Cummins put up a commendable show in the final. His initial success was winning the toss and sending India to bat first. Cummins might have read the conditions quite perfectly as Rohit Sharma and Co. faced a rare batting collapse in the first innings. Thanks to some crucial contributions from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, India managed to score 240 runs.
Australia failed to make a desirable start to the chase. They went three wickets down in just 47 runs. That’s when Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne decided to soak in the pressure first before going for runs. The plans clicked well as the duo became set at the crease and went on to stitch a 190-run partnership. Their efforts helped Australia comfortably cross the victory line in 43 overs.
During the post-match press conference, Pat Cummins branded the ODI World Cup victory as “the pinnacle of international cricket.”
He said, “You only get a shot at it every four years. Even if you have a 10-year career, you might only get two chances at it. And yeah, it’s just the whole cricket world stops with this World Cup. So it doesn’t get any better.”
Earlier this year, Pat Cummins led Australia to secure the ICC Test mace by beating India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Under his leadership, the Aussies also succeeded in retaining the iconic Ashes on English soil.
