Many fans may have gotten excited with the news of both the World Wrestling Entertainment and Ultimate Fighting Championship merging under one single company, TKO. The aftermath of the merger has not been kind to some of the wrestling superstars. According to various media outlets, several members of the roster are said to have been released as part of the layoffs. Some of the superstars have shared on social media confirming the release but some are yet to do so and WWE has not given an official statement regarding the releases as well.
The most notable name is that of Dolph Ziggler. The two-time World Champion has been part of the roster since 2004 when he debuted as a member of the five-man team called the Spirit Squad. He was under the name Nicky back then but following the group’s split, he was repackaged as Dolph Ziggler and has never looked back since. He has had many memorable moments in his career at the WWE. From partnering with Vickie Guerrero to winning the World Championship, to as unique ability to sell his opponent’s moves to a different level.

Some other notable releases include Shelton Benjamin who made his comeback into the WWE in 2017 but has not been able to gain much momentum since his return. The former United States, Intercontinental and Tag-Team champion started off with a partnership with Chad Gable and eventually teamed up with MVP and Bobby Lashley’s ‘The Hurt Business’ but has been out of action due to injury since May, 2022.
Indian pro-wrestling also took a hit as Gurvinder Singh Malhotra also known as Shanky, has also been part of the group of superstars that have been released. Shanky was called up to the main roster in January, 2021 where he teamed up with Jinder Mahal but failed to make a decent mark amongst the WWE Universe. He had recently featured in an in-house show called, WWE Superstar Spectacle which was hosted in Hyderabad, where he challenged the current Intercontinental champion, Gunther.

Another superstar who looked to be the next big thing was Mustafa Ali, he had been one of the guys that fans were behind and wanted to see him at the top. However, due to various disagreements, he was unable to achieve this. One controversial decision that comes to mind was when Ali, who was originally scheduled to win the Money in the Bank ladder match in 2019. Despite various pushes for him, fans were unlucky to see him get to the top.
Some other notable stars to get released are Rick Boogs, Riddick Moss, Emma, Aliyah, Elias, Top Dolla, Dana Brooke, Mace, Mansoor, Quincy Elliott, Yuliya Leon, Dabba Kato, Bryson Montana, Kevin Ventura-Cortez, Daniel McArthur, Alexis Gray and Brooklyn Barlow
