Watch: Rajasthan Homeowner And Electricity Dept Official Fight Over Power Theft
In a video circulating online, the engineer alleges that the electricity used by the resident is illegal, however, the owner argues that the allegations are not true.

During the summer season, power cuts are a common issue, affecting not only rural areas but major cities as well. However, some people rely on electricity theft, which leads to excessive power consumption. Recently, something similar was captured in Balotra, Rajasthan, where a house owner and an assistant engineer from the local electricity department were caught involved in a heated physical dispute.

In a video circulating online, the engineer alleges that the electricity used by the resident is illegal, however, the owner argues that the allegations are not true.

The exact reason for the argument is unclear, but the video shows the engineer and a few other men initially assaulting the homeowner. The fight escalates until the house owner’s wife intervenes and manages to stop the altercation. In the video, the assistant engineer accuses them stating, “Avedh connection aap chala rahe ho, main karta hun na karwayi. (You are running an unauthorised connection. I will take action.” In response, the homeowner claims, “Maine kiya connection, apko pata hai connection kiska hai. (I have not installed any connection, you know whose connection it is).”

Sharing the video on Instagram, the user wrote, “A video of some locals indulging in a fight with allegedly an assistant engineer of the electricity department over an electricity connection in Rajasthan’s Balotora went viral on social media.”

Reacting to the post, someone suggested, “First make illegal multiple connections, electricity theft in the first place, scuffle with electricity department officers and later complain about electricity cuts.” Another shared, Privatised electric board needed.” “Panchayat S4?” a comment read. Another wrote, “Getting a connection for a new house is a herculean task everywhere, nothing surprising.” Since the video was shared on Instagram, it has gone viral and garnered over 1 lakh views.

In Andhra Pradesh, doctors at a government hospital in Manyam district made headlines last year when they were forced to treat patients under mobile phone torches when the power was unavailable. This situation happened after eight road accident victims were brought to the Primary Health Centre at Kurupam during a power outage. With no electricity, medical staff had to rely on flashlights to provide treatment.

The incident was criticised by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu, who slammed thethen Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government for failing to address the electricity shortage.
