The man shared how he smoked 10 cigarettes every day for the past 24 years and found 'scary' results.

Those who have been smoking for a while might often find quitting very difficult, especially with the added social and economic stress that people go through. However, it is not impossible. One needs to find a strong personal reason for quitting. And so was the case with Rohit Kulkarni, a retail and channel sales professional who managed to quit smoking after 24 long years. Taking to his X handle, Rohit shared his story, reflecting on how he has been able to stay away from cigarettes for several days.

He also expressed his happiness over being able to achieve the impossible. “I have been smoking 10 cigarettes a day for the last 24 years daily. Don’t want to do the math and arrive at a total, it’s scary! On the day of Janmashtami this year, I decided to quit and it’s been 17 days since I touched a cigarette. So happy for myself!!!” Rohit wrote on the microblogging platform.

The post went instantly viral, grabbing a lot of reactions from users. While many came forward to laud Rohit’s decision, some shared their own story of quitting smoking.

A user shared his own story and extended words of encouragement: “Rohit, I smoked an average 15-18 cigarettes everyday from 1982 to 1996. On 04 Jan 1996 I crushed my Wills packet and threw it away. I haven’t touched a cigarette since then. TWENTY NINE YEARS. Be strong. Just fight one day at a time. In two months the desire to smoke would die.”

Another commented, “Keep going!! I smoked for 32 years before I quit. Been 2+ years now. You can do it.”

“If a cigarette reduced 7 mins of your life. You will go to the past to get born again and die in a parallel universe. But glad you quit. Gives me hope,” a comment read.

On the other hand, a user named ‘Yamraj’ jokingly commented on the post and wrote, “Another customer lost.”

Users also dropped some helpful advice for Rohit, cautioning him about the withdrawal symptoms and health benefits in the long run.

One wrote, “When you get the urge, sip lukewarm water and roll it around your gums. It helps. I used to smoke 40 a day till 1994. Then I quit overnight and never smoked again. I was recommended the lukewarm water method and it helped.”
