Instances of baggage mishandling are often associated with airports, but this time, it’s the Indian Railways under scrutiny. A video has surfaced online showing carton boxes being carelessly thrown from a moving train at a Mumbai station, raising questions about the department’s responsibilities and carelessness.
The clip, shared by the X page @mumbaimatterz, depicts workers on a train departing from Mumbai Central Station tossing small carton boxes, reportedly containing cherries, onto the platform with little regard. Meanwhile, the police and railway officers on duty merely observed, suggesting this wasn’t an isolated incident.

“Horrible. No care, no value,” commented one user. Another quipped, “This is what imparts the best flavours to cherries. Upon being thrown, the cherries release a special enzyme which makes it sweeter. This is by design.”
A third user lamented, “Nothing new or nothing going to change. We get books in 20kg/box parcel thru private players and the handling will be in the same way. Even if we pay lakhs of rupees, the labour handle the load in the same way,” while a fourth user remarked, “This is rampant across all stations. Parcel service is the most sought after posting for obvious reasons and the most inefficient department.”

In response, Railway Seva replied to the post, stating, “For necessary action, escalated to the concerned official @Drmmumbaicr.”
This incident echoes a similar situation from April, where a video showing the rough handling of a passenger’s “fragile” belongings by Air India ground staff went viral. Captured by the passenger, a Mumbai-based guitarist and sound engineer, through the plane’s window, the footage shows a staff member carelessly tossing a musical instrument onto the luggage carrier. This act of negligence sparked widespread concern about luggage safety, with social media users condemning airlines and calling for greater accountability and respect for passengers’ belongings.
