The Vivo X100 Pro will be among the first flagships to launch in India in 2024. Going by the initial impressions on social media, Vivo is trying to cater to two pain points in expensive flagship smartphones from Samsung, Apple, Google Pixel and others– superior quality zoom images and portrait photographs for every shot. So, what’s new Vivo has planned for the X100 Pro?
While “Portrait” mode is quite a common feature now in phones, not everyone uses it to click photos. The reasons are simple, it takes time to click photos and the blurring effect is not always desirable. Also, many users simply want to get the best out of their phones by relying on the Auto settings itself. With the X100 Pro, Vivo aims to offer easy shots that will offer Portraits for all every situation and lighting. For example, the Vivo X100Pro will come with the ability to offer well defined portrait images at even 10X zoom.
With computational photography and two lenses from ZEISS, the Vivo X100 Pro is offering multifocal imaging. The main camera is a 23mm ZEISS lens with the large IMX989 sensor along with an aperture of f/1.75. The lens comes with Zeiss T* (T star) coating. This reduces reflections in complex lighting conditions and direct sunlight helping in delivering clearer photos.

VIvo has paid great attention to the zoom camera of the phone and has supplied it with the 100mm ZEISS APO floating periscope camera. Now, that’s too much jargon! APO means “Apochromatic lens”. What does it do? Apochromatic lenses (APO) claim to offer the best color correction capabilities. This means the red flower which you try to click under direct sunlight will not have hints of orange or yellow. The colours will be accurate as APO controls chromatic aberration.
Another aspect is “floating camera”. What is it? This is quite from the traditional periscope camera and the floating periscope telephoto puts a lens in front of the prism to form a grouped structure. According to Vivo, the floating periscope design and ZEISS APO lens, the camera can offer f/2.5 aperture in the same size making it possible to get good quality images be it at 6X or 10X scenarios zoom and even under dark lighting conditions. Also, to help users shoot better zoom pictures, there’s a new stabilization system as well. Along with this, there’s a 15mm ultra-wide angle camera with ISOCELL JN1 sensor and f/2.0 aperture.

With new ZEISS lens, improved algorithms and the V3 imaging chip, the Vivo X100 Pro aims to set a new standard for flagship cameras in 2024. It simply wants to enable anyone to click great portrait shots and zoom photography automatically without fidgeting with so-called Pro mode settings like in other phones.
