New Delhi: A local court in Siwan has found Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Mohammad Shahabuddin guilty of trying to murder a police officer.
Shahabuddin was accused of attacking and firing at Siwan’s Superintendent of Police SK Singhal in May 1996.
The MP is currently serving a life sentence in a kidnapping case in Siwan jail. There are 40 other criminal cases pending against him.
On August 8, the Patna High Court rejected the bail Shahabuddin’s application, sentenced to life by a trial court in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a CPI-ML worker.
Shahabuddin had moved the high court on May 24 against his conviction and sentencing in the kidnapping and murder of a CPI-ML worker eight years ago and his appeal was admitted for hearing.
Meanwhile, he had filed a petition for bail. While handing down life term to Shahabuddin on May 8, additional district and sessions judge of Siwan Gyaneshwar Prasad Srivastava had also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
The judge had found him guilty under section 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), in the case relating to kidnapping of CPI-ML worker Chotelal Gupta on February 7, 1999.
The prosecution had failed to establish the murder of Gupta, as his body was never found.
