SP asked Congress to explain the role of top UPA leaders who were part of the Rao government during Babri demolition.

New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's statement: "Had my family been in power at that time, Babri would not have been demolished,” has created a furore amongst political circles in Uttar Pradesh.

The Samajwadi party on Wednesday sharpened its attack over Rahul Gandhi’s statement and asked Congress to explain the role of top leaders of UPA, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who were part of the Narasimha Rao government, during the demolition.

News agency PTI quoted SP leader Naresh Agarwal as saying that Rahul should clarify why Arjun Singh met the then Chief Minister Kalyan Singh three days before the demolition.

He alleged that the mosque demolition was a joint conspiracy of Congress and BJP.

Congres must explain the role of the top leaders in the present government - Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee and Arjun Singh - who were part of the Narasimha Rao ministry, during the demolition, he was quoted as saying.
