Name Modi as PM candidate for 2014 polls, demands Bihar BJP
A resolution, moved by Sushil Kumar Modi, was adopted at the end of the two-day state executive committee meeting of the BJP in Gaya.

Gaya: The Bihar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday adopted a resolution asking the party Central Parliamentary Board to announce Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha election.

The resolution, moved by former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, was adopted at the end of the two-day state executive committee meeting of the BJP in Gaya.

The resolution, which was seconded by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav, demanded that the BJP should name Modi as its prime minister nominee without any loss of time.

The House adopted the resolution amid sloganeering for Modi, who is also the BJP's campaign committee chief. Bihar BJP is the first unit of the party to make a formal demand on this.

The resolution was sent to the 11-member Parliamentary Board, the top decision making body of the BJP. It said "People want 'majboot' (strong) and not 'majboor' (helpless) government that could lead the country and fulfil aspirations of the common man."

Praising leadership quality of Modi, the resolution said he established Gujarat as a front running state of the country. "Son of a poor who eked out living by selling tea on roadside is the natural choice of people from all walks of life for the post of Prime Ministership," it said.

The decision of Bihar BJP bears significance as the state had been out of bound for Modi for past decade because of insistence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as head of NDA in the state.

The JD(U) had severed its 17-year-old tie with the BJP over elevation of Modi as the party's poll panel chief on June 16 and Modi is scheduled to attend a rally at Patna on October 27. Nitish Kumar always had an uneasy relation with his Gujarat counterpart and has even cancelled scheduled dinner with BJP leaders during a national executive committee in 2010 after an advertisement appeared in newspapers about Modi contributing Rs 5 crore for Kosi flood victims.
