Kursi Election Results 2017: Sakendra Pratap Verma of BJP Wins
The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh had in 2012 won 224 seats spread across 75 districts. It has tied-up with Congress this time in the contest against BJP and BSP.

Sakendra Pratap Verma of BJP has won the Kursi constituency No. 266 of Uttar Pradesh legislative Assembly.

The main candidates from Kursi were V.P.Singh Verma (BSP), Sakendra Pratap Verma (BJP), Vinod Kumar Yadav (CPI), Amar Singh (RLD), Fareed Mahfooz Kidwai (SP).

Kursi is a Muslim dominated constituency. The fight was between sitting MLA, Fareed Mahfooz Kidwai (SP), minister of state for technical education against BJP Sakendra Pratap Verma and BSP VP Singh Verma.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) defeated the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) in the 2012 Assembly elections. Fareed Mahfooj Kidwai, the winning BJP candidate, got 80,183 votes. The nearest contender was Kumari Meeta Gautam of BSP who got 56,246 votes.

Elections to 403 seats of Uttar Pradesh were held over 7 phases from February 4 to March 8.

Exit polls had predicted the BJP emerging first in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party- Congress alliance emerging second and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party emerging a distant third.
