Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi on Wednesday said his party would consider it a betrayal of Tamils if the Indian government does not support the US-backed resolution against Sri Lanka in the United Nation Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
Referring to External Affairs Minister SM Krishna's statement in parliament that India would not take any decision against Sri Lanka, Karunanidhi told reporters here: "DMK Members of Parliament Siva and Kanimozhi responded to that by citing India's stand on the Bangladesh issue. The central government has not answered to that."
"India should vote in favour of the resolution brought by the US against Sri Lanka, failing which the DMK would consider it as betrayal of Tamils," Karunanidhi said.
To a query whether the party would withdraw support to the UPA government, Karunanidhi said: "I cannot take that decision alone. The party's executive committee would decide on that."
