Kalmadi not lone accused in CWG scam: Gadkari
Gadkari expressed confidence that Chidambaram would be implicated in the scam as the matter was being investigated.

Jamshedpur: BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Thursday claimed that former Indian Olympics Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi was not the lone accused in the CWG scam and several other government departments were equally responsible for it.

Addressing a public meeting in support of party candidate-cum-state unit president Dineshanand Goswami for the upcoming Jamshedpur parliamentary by-election, Gadkari said Kalmadi had only Rs 1,600 crore budget and he received the first advance following the approval of departments like finance committee and cabinet sub-committee.

"Kalmadi could not have withdrawn the money without the approval of these departments," he claimed and dared the Congress to file a defamation against him if he was wrong.

"Hence, we cannot accuse Kalmadi alone in the Rs 76,000 crore CWG scam but all the concerned departments including the Prime Minister are equally responsible," Gadkari said accusing Congress of corruption and making wrong policies leading to price rise.

He said the 2G spectrum scam involving Rs 1.76 lakh thousand crore could have been saved had the Prime Minister referred former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran's letter to the cabinet.

"If we had a strong Prime Minister, the 2G scam could not have taken place," Gadkari said while criticising the Prime Minister for relying on the response of the then finance minister P Chidambaram.

Gadkari expressed confidence that Chidambaram would be implicated in the scam as the matter was being investigated.
