Rohtak: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was heckled in Rohtak on Tuesday, where he went to take stock of the situation over the protest by Jat for quota in OBC category. Khattar met community leaders and administrators in Rohtak but the crowd started shouting slogans jeering the Chief Minister.
Khattar's appeal for calm was not reciprocated. Even as Khattar assured action against the culprits, crowd raised 'murdabad' slogans.
Khattar has clarified that Jats will be given reservation under special category, not in OBC category
"What happened is bad and needs to be investigated. Shops were looted and burnt. The government will bear the loss occured. Jobs will be given to the poor and needy," said Khattar.
"We are trying to restore peace. High level inquiry will be ordered based on proofs. Action will be taken against district and police officials for any lapse in handling situation," added Khattar.
Meanwhile, there is no end to the Jat agitation in Haryana even after nine days. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Haryana government to file status report on the Jat quota stir by Monday.
Even as the road traffic is limping back to normalcy, over a 100 trains stand cancelled. The death toll in the agitation has risen to 19 and around 150 have been injured.
Sources said that the Haryana government is only likely to prepare a draft bill after talking to all stakeholders and has not announced a time frame for the bill. This may irk the protesters who threaten to continue the stir if quota is not granted.
Industry body PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry has pegged the loss of economic activity due to the Jat agitation at Rs 34,000 crore.
Haryana government had on Sunday said that it would fully compensate people whose private property was damaged during the Jat agitation.
It also announced a relief of Rs 10 lakh to the family of each deceased.
