New Delhi: The deadlock over the Government's decision to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail sector continues and the Government is now working over time to first get its allies on board as the Opposition keeps up the pressure.
The DMK and the Trinamool Congress are still opposed to the FDI decision and want a discussion in the House.
Showing the party's distress on the issue, TMC member and Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi skipped Thursday's Cabinet meet.
It is crucial for Government to get TMC on board and sources say, Prime Minister may directly speak to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee to find a way out.
While ally DMK has shown signs of coming around, it is Mamata, thriving on support of small time shopkeepers in West Bengal, who is playing hardball. Indications are that the Prime Minister himself may talk to her by the weekend to resolve the issue.
"We are sure of managing our allies," said Congress leader Rashid Alvi.
Meanwhile, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma is likely to brief Congress MPs on FDI in retail on Friday.
