New Delhi: The Election Commission has decided to close the matter on Salman Khurshid after the latter wrote to the EC saying he had the highest regard for the institution. The Union Law Minister has been facing the Election Commission heat over a Muslim sub-quota remark that he made at an election rally in Uttar Pradesh recently.
The issue led to a furore with the EC writing to the President over the alleged "defiant" attitude of the Congress minister towards the constitutional body. The Prime Minister was called in to intervene on the matter.
On Monday, Khurshid wrote to the body saying he respected the institution and also the decision it would take.
Khurshid further mentioned in his letter that the minority quota was a manifesto issue, calling the entire controversy unfortunate.
