Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that 19 murder convicts were granted parole prior to the heinous murder of Youth Congress leader SP Shuhaib near Mattannur in Kannur.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the Congress leader alleged that Shuhaib was murdered in the same manner in which RMP leader TP Chandrasekharan, who deserted CPM, was killed in 2012.
Kodi Suni, the main convict in the TP murder case was also given parole before the killing of the Youth Congress leader on February 12, Ramesh Chennithala added.
“Even after all these days, not even a single accused in the Shuhaib murder case has been arrested. There is something fishy about the parole to political criminals as Shuhaib was murdered soon after that. CPM is not an organisation which is functioning in a democratic manner. It has been unleashing terror and committing barbarous kind of murders,” alleged Ramesh Chennithala.
On Tuesday, a 29 -year-old Youth Congress worker was hacked to death and two others were injured in an attack by a four-member gang in Kerala's Kannur district. The deceased has been identified as T.H. Shuhaib of Edayannur near Mattannur, the secretary of Youth Congress Mattannur block committee.
According to statistics from 1969 to May 2016, about 216 people have been killed by political rivals, mainly from CPM and Sangh Parivar, in the district.
