New Delhi: The Congress has rubbished all poll surveys that put it in second place. Party leader Sachin Pilot is confident that the grand old party will form the government in four of the five states that went to polls.
The election in Uttar Pradesh has been called a litmus test for Rahul Gandhi but with the CNN-IBN-The Week post-poll survey conducted by the CSDS places the Congress in second place. It seems the Rahul magic has not worked for the party.
Speaking to Editor-in-Chief, IBN18 Network Rajdeep Sardesai, Pilot said, “I think it is best to wait for the actual counting to happen. More important issue really is not which survey is right or wrong, it’s about what happened in Uttar Pradesh in the last one year or what has been happening in the past two or three months. We went in with a clean campaign, it was really dignified. We are fighting to win the elections. I don't think I agree with what the numbers are projecting. Let’s wait till mid day tomorrow (Tuesday) that is when the numbers will come out. I’m confident we will do better than being predicted.”
On being asked, if the numbers are as bad our survey says, will you then say that something has gone drastically wrong?
Pilot said, “We had elections in five states. my hunch is that we will form governments in four of those five states. we came in with a very weak wicket of just 20 odd seats in 2007. Vote share and the number of seats etc we will come to know only by tomorrow afternoon.
“Rahul Gandhi led from the front. He was leading the Congress from the front knowing that the party is not as strong as we would like it to be. I believe that when you win you have to be humble and if you don't win you have be gracious,” he replied when asked if Rahul Gandhi will have something to answer for.
“Well the people in-charge of the state will have to look into what happens but I am still confident we will do a lot better than what your polls have predicted,” he added.
