New Delhi: In the wake of the Allahabad High Court dismissing BJP candidate Varun Gandhi's petition, Congress on Wednesday said he deserved "much worse".
"Varun Gandhi deserves much worse than mere dismissal of his ill conceived petition since he has deliberately tried to create communal polarisation," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.
However, "we have no doubt that BJP will invent some new excuse to justify giving him a ticket and continue to support him," Singhvi said.
The Allahabad High Court had earlier in the day rejected Varun's plea for quashing of an FIR filed against him for his alleged anti-Muslim speeches in Pilibhit.
In his petition, 29-year-old Gandhi had challenged the FIR filed on March 17 at Barkheda Police Station under Sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act.
