After days of negotiations, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) reached an arrangement on seat sharing in a late night meeting on Friday at BJP president Amit Shah's residence.
LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan, BJP's Bhupendra Yadav and Ananth Kumar attended the meeting for the final decision on seat sharing for the Assembly elections beginning on October 12.
The BJP had faced some opposition from its ally after the party wanted to contest 165 seats, leaving just 35 seats for the LJP out of a total 78 set aside for allies.
Meanwhile, the BJP Central Election Committee is expected to announce its first list for Assembly polls in Bihar on September 15.
Senior BJP leader Ananth Kumar termed it as a "respected seat sharing" agreement, adding the a formal announcement on the same would be made soon.
"We have finalised a respected seat sharing with LJP. We have achieved breakthrough in seat sharing . There will be formal announcement soon," he said.
LJP leader Chirag Paswan also confirmed that the deal has been finalised.
"We discussed range of issues, not only seats in Bihar elections. There will be formal announcements soon. Now it is sure we will contest in Bihar in alliance with BJP," said Paswan.
