BJP rakes up food prices in poll campaign
Inflation figures come a day before six states go to the polls over the next month.

New Delhi: A day before six states go to the polls — for what is being described as the mini general elections — Governement released inflation figures on Thursday.

However, figures seldom influence polls in the rural hinterland. It may not matter to tribal and countryside voters in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh and may only have limited impact on the voter in Delhi.

What the voters are waiting to see is how these figures really bring down prices on the ground.

The BJP is campaigning that there has been no change in the prices of cereals, pulses and vegetables as late as last week.

BJP President Rajnath Singh says the new inflation figures look artificial.
