BJP defends decision to ask Delhi BJP VP to resign for criticising Modi
Appearing on CNN-IBN's Face the People, BJP's former Delhi vice president Aamir Raza Hussain called Modi a divisive leader.

New Delhi: Defending the decision to ask Delhi BJP Vice President Aaamir Raza Hussain to resign from his post for criticising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party said that the ideology of the party leaders should be in sync with the party.

"The BJP works on ideology. I've said this in Goa as well, that from Advani to our grassroot worker, our ideology remains the same. We are all either communal or secular based on your perspective. But the new people joining the party feel that one leader is better than the other. This doesn't happen as all our leaders work on the same ideology," BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said.

Hussain, resigned from his post after his statement against Modi anguished the party. Appearing on CNN-IBN's Face the People show on Monday, Hussain had called Modi a divisive leader who was not as acceptable to Muslims as LK Advani or Sushma Swaraj.

"I think Narendra Modi's statements are despicable. He is not my leader. I support the BJP because I think the Congress has to go," Hussain told IBN18 Deputy Editor Sagarika Ghose on Face The People.

Hussain, who was the newly appointed Delhi vice president of the BJP, had joined the party three months ago. In a letter to Delhi BJP President Vijay Goel, Hussain said that he should not have made comments which could cause hurt to a senior leader of the party while holding an important post.

"His intention was not to cause anguish against any leader and he has tendered his resignation from the post," Delhi BJP said in a statement. Goel has accepted his resignation, it said.
