New Delhi: Even though the law and order situation has been deteriorating in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is still on defensive. More than a week after two teenaged sisters were raped and murdered in Badaun, the Chief Minister has now accused BSP leaders of trying to influence the victims' family.
Akhilesh said, "We have phone records of a BSP MLA. He spoke to the families the minute he left Lucknow for Badaun and even directed them on what to say to the media. The BSP asked them to return the compensation offered by the state. They took money from the BSP but not from the state."
On Saturday, state DGP AL Banerjee said one of the girls may not have been raped and that they were still examing whether the other minor was raped. His statement contradicted the post-mortem report which suggested rape.
The top police officer also claimed the culprits arrested by the police may not be the real accused in the case. The DGP said that girls were hanged after being killed and the call details are also being examined. "The girls were strangled to death. Victims' family has become hostile. We have found bear bottles near the crime scene. This could be a possibility that those accused may not be the real culprits and there could be a different motive behind murder," he added.
