Vivek Agnihotri appeared to roll his eyes when Karan Johar walked on the stage to receive the National Award at the ceremony held on Tuesday. The filmmaker’s produced film Shershaah was awarded the Special Jury Award at the 69th National Film Award. Vivek was also present at the ceremony as his film, The Kashmir Files, had won Nargis Dutt Award for Best Film on National Integration. In a video shared by DD National, Karan was seen walking up on stage to receive the medal and certificate and Vivek’s seeming reaction.
Dressed in a traditional outfit, Karan was seen making his way to receive the honour from Droupadi Murmu, the President of India. As he made his way, Vivek looked away from the stage and even appeared to roll his eyes. The video of the same has now caught the internet’s attention. Watch the video below:

It is no secret that Vivek Agnihotri disagrees with Karan Johar’s approach to films. In August this year, Vivek accused Karan and Shah Rukh Khan of ‘damaging India’s cultural fabric’. Speaking with DNA, the filmmaker said, “After the advent of Amitabh Bachchan as a superstar – not the one from Deewar but one from Shehanshah – the cinema after that never told real stories. Especially Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan’s cinema, that has actually damaged the cultural fabric of India in a very disastrous way. So, I felt it was important to tell real, honest stories.”
Karan and Shah Rukh have not reacted to his statements. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Karan spoke to a red carpet host at the National Film Awards ceremony about the honour. “It’s been an exciting journey. Our film Shershaah released in 2021 is the real life story of Captain Vikram Batra. We are forever grateful to the family for allowing us to tell the brave, brave story to the entire world. It was depicted so beautifully by actors Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani and directed by Vishnuvardhan. We are very proud directors and producers at Dharma Productions and Shabbir Boxwala. Apoorva Mehta and myself are both very honoured, humbled and privileged to be here,” he said.
Vivek took to X (previously known as Twitter) and shared the video of him receiving his award. “Thank you #NationalAwards for this most prestigious award. Award to #TheKashmirFiles is a tribute to all the victims of religious terrorism. Specially, in today’s context it shows what happens when humanity is absent,” he said.
