Sunny Deol, who has been basking under the success of Gadar 2, has turned a year older today. The actor is celebrating his birthday and wishes have been coming in for him from all corners. On this day, an old interview surfaced in which he spoke about why his wife Pooja Deol stayed away from the glitz and glamour of the film industry. In a candid revelation, Sunny Deol affirmed that Pooja’s low-profile presence is entirely her choice.
In an old interview with Deccan Chronicle in 2013, the actor had shared that Pooja wasn’t ‘forced to stay away from the limelight’. He was also asked if Pooja, his mother Prakash Deol and Bobby Deol’s wife Tanya Deol were asked to not be in the limelight. On this he replied, “That’s not true. Neither my mother nor my wife was forced to stay away from the limelight. My wife is her own person. She has always had the liberty to make her own decisions. To not make public appearances is her own call. Like I said, neither my father nor I have forced the women in our family to follow our rules.”
Sunny had reportedly tied the knot with Pooja around the release of his debut film Betab (1983), in which he was paired opposite Amrita Singh. However, the actor chose to keep his marriage a secret for “many years,” according to several media reports on the internet. Interestingly, Sunny was romantically linked with Amrita during the filming of Betab. Later that year, a magazine reportedly leaked pictures of Sunny’s secret wedding with Pooja Deol, but the actor had denied being married to anyone at the time. Sunny and Pooja tied the knot in 1984. The couple has two sons, Karan Deol and Rajveer Deol.
On the work front, Sunny will be next seen in director Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore, 1947. Aamir will only be producing the film with his production house Aamir Khan Productions.
