The ongoing Dhangar community reservation debate sparked a protest recently at Khandala, Maharashtra. This caused significant inconvenience as community members blocked roads, which led to prolonged traffic jams. Veteran actor Mahesh Manjrekar, caught in the disruption, expressed dissatisfaction with the road blockade, criticising its impact on common citizens. The incident highlights the tensions over Dhangar community reservations and the disruptions faced by the public. While interacting with the media, he said: “I was stuck in the traffic for two and a half hours. I don’t know what to do. We can understand the problem you are going through, but what is the use of telling them this? I am a cancer patient. I have a false bladder. It’s been two and a half hours and I can’t go to the toilet. We waited for two and a half to three hours. I don’t know what kind of legal system this is”.
In Khandala, the Dhangar community staged a road blockade protest, causing an unexpected delay for Mahesh Manjrekar and his colleagues, who were unaware of the ongoing protests. The protesters halted Manjrekar’s car during his journey, resulting in a two-and-a-half-hour traffic holdup.
The actor voiced his concerns, acknowledging the significance of the issues raised. He refrained from commenting on the specific problem but highlighted the broader impact on various stakeholders such as patients, ambulance services, and individuals facing difficulties. Manjrekar underscored the need to communicate concerns effectively, without hindering overall progress.
Some time back, Dhangar community leaders along with members of Dhangar Samaj Yuvak Sanghatana, organised rasta roko protests on the Pune-Saswad road to advocate for reservations for their community. The protests sparked disturbance in the vehicular movement for several hours. Dhangar community members gathered at Mantarwadi Phata on Pune-Saswad road and staged a rasta roko agitation on Sunday at approximately 5:30 pm. During the demonstration, protestors voiced dissatisfaction with the government, urging the fulfilment of their longstanding request for reservations for the Dhangar community.
Protests caused disturbances in traffic flow to and from Saswad, resulting in extended delays and long queues of vehicles on the Pune-Saswad road.
