We have heard stories of numerous Bollywood spats. One major among them was that between actors Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi. Last year, Vivek Oberoi’s father and veteran actor Suresh Oberoi claimed that he was unaware of his son’s love affair with actress Aishwarya Rai. Later, when he came to know about it, he asked Vivek not to engage in it. He said “Most of it I didn’t even know. Vivek never told me. Ramu (Ram Gopal Varma) told me. Before Ramu, someone else told me. I made him understand. Samjhaya tha mat karo (I had told him not to do it).” Suresh Oberoi’s statement went viral. Amid all this, an old interview of Vivek Oberoi – where he took a veiled dig at Aishwarya Rai and called her plastic – is once again grabbing attention.
Vivek Oberoi had appeared on Farah Khan’s show along with Ritiesh Deshmukh, where he mentioned that there are a lot of plastic people in the industry. He even spoke about the infamous press conference against Salman Khan. Aishwarya Rai has never spoken about it publicly. Farah asked Vivek on her show, “But did the people for whom you did all this ever say thank you? Were you appreciated?” Vivek then added, “No, it didn’t happen! Instead, it turned out that ‘you are very immature’. Later it became you shouldn’t have done this. Apne industry mein ek dastoor hai – Jaise Tupperware jahan plastic ke dabbe banate hain … usse zyada plastic hamare yahan hai (Our industry has a custom. Just like we have tupperware plastic boxes, our industry has more plastic than that). Plastic smile, plastic heart..plastic everything!”.
Following the controversial press conference, Vivek Oberoi’s career was sabotaged and no one took his side. Many termed the actor immature for washing dirty linen in public. Today, Vivek Oberoi has moved on and is happily living his life; while Aishwarya, who has never admitted to the alleged affair with Vivek, is a doting mother to Aaradhya Bachchan and is asserting herself as a Bachchan Bahu and the Bollywood diva that she is.
