Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter dropped her eagerly awaited album and also released the music video for her single, Taste, starring Jenna Ortega.

Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter on August 23 dropped her eagerly awaited album, Short n’ Sweet. But that wasn’t all, she treated her fans to a new music video of her single, Taste, starring none other than Jenna Ortega. The song explores the raw emotions of jealousy and insecurity that arise when an ex moves on, bringing unresolved feelings and resentment. In the visually stunning video, directed by Dave Meyers, Carpenter and the Beetlejuice 2 actress engage in a darkly humourous cycle of revenge, even sharing a kiss amid the chaos.

Sharing the video on her Instagram handle, Carpenter wrote, “Taste video is out now! this song is so special to me and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone that helped me bring one of my most ambitious videos to life. i had one person in mind for this and that was the one and only Jenna Ortega Watching her on screen is a true dream come true and I’m so inspired, impressed, and amazed by her. This could not have happened without the brain and skill and heart that is Dave Meyers thank you to him and his talented crew for bringing this crazy vision to life.”

In the music video of Taste, Carpenter kicks things off with an intense lullaby performance as she heads towards a pink bed that is filled with ominous tools that can be used for murder. She then grabs a knife, using it as a mirror while applying lipstick, then storms into a mansion. In the mansion, she approaches the bed to kill Ortega, playing her rival, whom she thinks is in bed with her ex.

In a surprising twist, the Wednesday actress appears with a shotgun, sending Carpenter hurtling off a balcony. As Ortega leans to check on her, Carpenter, with fence spikes protruding from her body, hurls a knife that lands directly in Ortega’s eye.

The two engage in various intense confrontations, including battles with voodoo dolls and a heated shower fight. In a surprising twist, Ortega’s “beloved boyfriend” transforms into Carpenter, who she then attacks with a chainsaw, only to realise she has accidentally killed her real partner. The video wraps up with both stars attending the funeral of the man in black attire. However, the video concludes with the two leaving the scene, laughing and enjoying smoothies.

The video is packed with playful horror references. Carpenter and Ortega channel the vampy looks of Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep from 1992’s Death Becomes Her, with matching black dresses and voluminous styles. Ortega’s nurse outfit recalls Daryl Hannah’s costume in Kill Bill, while Carpenter’s character gets impaled on a fence, reminiscent of a scene in the 2000’s Ginger Snaps. The video also includes an ominous shower scene similar to the 1960 classic Psycho.

In June, Carpenter released the music video for Please Please Please, a single produced by Jack Antonoff. The video stars her boyfriend Barry Keoghan.
