Tamannaah Bhatia was asked to appear for questioning by Maharashtra Cyber Cell in connection with the illegal IPL matches streaming case.

Actor Tamannaah Bhatia has reacted to Maharashtra Cyber Cell summon in connection with the illegal IPL matches streaming case. Although the actress is yet to issue a statement to the press, she has requested the Cyber Cell to give a later date to appear. Tamannaah was asked to appear for questioning as a witness on April 29. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell had previously asked Sanjay Dutt to also appear last week but he also requested for a later date due to his shoot schedule.

“Tamannaah Bhatia has informed the cyber team that she is not in Mumbai, and could appear again a later date,” sources said. Cyber Cell is yet to announce the new date.

Last week, Tamannaah’s name made headlines in connection with illegal IPL matches streaming case. “Maharashtra Cyber summons actor Tamannaah Bhatia for questioning in connection with the illegal streaming of IPL 2023 on Fairplay App that caused loss of Crores of Rupees to Viacom. She has been asked to appear before Maharashtra Cyber on 29th April,” ANI shared on X last week. Tamannaah allegedly promoted and endorsed FairPlay’s subsidiary app of the Mahadev betting app.

It was also reported that more than 20 influencers who had also endorsed the FairPlay app on different platforms are also likely to be summoned soon to record their statements.

About Illegal IPL Streaming Case:

As per reports, an FIR was registered after Viacom18 complained against betting app platform, Fair Play, for streaming the IPL matches despite the former holding the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) to stream the games. The illegal streaming led to over Rs 100 crore loss for Viacom18. The FIR was registered in September 2023.

Following the FIR, several stars including Badshah, Sanjay Dutt, Jacqueline Fernandez and Tamannaah, among others, were called in for questioning. In December 2023, an employee of the betting app was arrested.
