Disney is here with a brand new trailer for Moana 2, which is set to come out next month. Introducing a lot of newer elements along with a “power-hungry god," the trailer hints at Moana’s (Auli’i Cravalho) ferocious fight with a powerful villain, and it is not Lava anymore. Teaming up with Maui (Dwayne Johnson), Moana sets out to chart an unexplored territory through the sea.
As the trailer begins, it shows the young warrior returning home to Motunui after a three-day journey, reuniting with her enthusiastic younger sister Simea. It is then revealed that Moana has found an object that represents a mysterious island, setting the stage for her new journey. In the latter half of the trailer, Moana can be seen gathering her crew when Maui shows up to assist her on the trip as she vows to break the curse and reconnect with her people.
On the other hand, the trailer also introduces Matangi (Awhimai Fraser), who is likely to pose a danger to her team. With her hometown’s fate hanging, Moana must navigate the dangerous waters and confront the curse of the island.
The film’s synopsis states, “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced." What’s different in the sequel is that it showcases a grown-up version of the titular warrior, bringing in more responsibilities for her. Also tagged along is Moana’s younger sister in the picture.
Directed by David G Derrick Jr., Jason H. and Dana Ledoux Miller, the film brings back the iconic pairing of Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson as Moana and Maui. Rachel House and Temuera Morrison are also a part of the cast.
While the much-awaited Moana sequel is ready for its theatrical release on November 27, Disney is also preparing for a live-action Moana remake in 2026.
