When Anil Kapoor’s brother, Sanjay Kapoor marked his debut in Bollywood in 1995, he instantly made the women fall for his good looks and charm. He instantly became the heartthrob of the nation as well. Despite a rocky start with a box office bomb, he delivered a handful of hits that earned him recognition. However, as per reports, it is believed that one of his biggest mistakes led to him missing out on a blockbuster and his career nosedived.
Sanjay Kapoor won the hearts of her female fans with his debut film Prem opposite Tabu. While both their performances were fairly decent, the film tanked at the box office. The film was delayed for many years as it was in production since 1989 and was finally released in 1995. After Prem, he was roped in Raja opposite Madhuri Dixit which emerged to be a box office success. He later featured in films like Auzaar, Mohabbat, Sirf Tum, Chhupa Rustam: A Musical Thriller and Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe. The actor had gained recognition and fame in the industry with his remarkable performances despite many of his film’s failures. But a mistake he made in 2003 affected his career.
In 2003, Sanjay Kapoor was offered Tere Naam. As per reports, Anurag Kashyap was helming the film and wanted to sign up the Sirf Tum actor. However, the actor rejected the film for reasons not known. Later, Satish Kaushik took over as the director and roped in Salman Khan. To date, Tere Naam is considered to be one of the best films in Salman Khan’s career which catapulted him to immense fame and turned him into an overnight superstar. It is one of the heartbreaking love stories that was a blockbuster at the box office. Such was the star’s influence, that the youth began to copy his sleek middle-parted hairstyle.
Tere Naam pushed Salman Khan’s career to a new height and he became a hit machine delivering one hit after another. On the other hand, the rejection of the film led to the decline of Sanjay Kapoor’s career.
After 2003, he started playing supporting roles in films like Qayamat: City Under Threat, Julie, Luck By Chance and Shaandaar. He was last seen in Murder Mubarak.
