'Have No Desire To See It’: Quentin Tarantino Refuses To Watch Toy Story 4 For This Reason
During an interview, Quentin Tarantino praised Toy Story 3 as an exceptional film and felt it brought the story to a perfect conclusion.

Quentin Tarantino, the acclaimed American filmmaker, recently shared his thoughts on the animated Toy Story franchise, revealing why he has intentionally avoided watching Toy Story 4. During an interview on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Tarantino expressed his deep admiration for the first three films, particularly Toy Story 3, which he regards as one of the finest movies ever made.

“I don’t watch all the animated movies and stuff, but I’m a big fan of the ‘Toy Story’ trilogy,” Tarantino told Maher. “I think there’s only one trilogy that completely and utterly works to the Nth degree and that’s A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”

The Oscar winner director praised Sergio Leone’s Italian trilogy, noting that he found the first movie “terrific” but the second movie elevated the story to a much larger scale that it “obliterates the first one.” Tarantino further noted the third installment builds upon the success of the second film and surpasses it, something he finds rare in trilogies.

Tarantino compared the Toy Story trilogy to Leone’s Dollars Trilogy and praised Toy Story 3 as an exceptional film, one of his favourites and felt it brought the story to a perfect conclusion.

“In the case of ‘Toy Story,’ the third one is just magnificent. It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating. But the thing is, then three years later or something, they did a fourth. I have no desire to see it. You literally ended the story as perfect as you could, so no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done,” he said.

The Django Unchained director also pointed out that the original Mad Max trilogy helmed by George Miller and Byron Kennedy, struggled to deliver a satisfying conclusion. He mentioned that the final film, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, was considered by many critics to be a decline in quality as its predecessor, The Road Warrior, making it a less successful ending to the trilogy.

At Disney’s recent D23 event, Andrew Stanton announced that he will direct Toy Story 5, set for release in 2026.

The new film will introduce a fresh challenge to the popular characters of the franchise, Woody and Buzz Lightyear, as they face off against the rising influence of electronics. Stanton hinted that the film will explore the clash between classic toys and modern tech.
