Folk artist Kovan detained by Chennai police for criticising  Jayalalithaa-led government
He had recently released a song claiming the whole of Tamil Nadu is under the influence of alcohol.

Chennai: A Tamil folk artist has been detained by the Chennai police for allegedly criticising the Aiadmk government.

Kovan, a member of MKIK- a performance group based in Trichy - was picked by the Chennai police at 2am on Friday.

He had recently released a song claiming the whole of Tamil Nadu is under the influence of alcohol and that "Poes" where chief minister Jayalalithaa resides - is rejoicing.

Kovan also sings about the increasing price of food and education.

The song has gone viral on social media.
