Emma Roberts Recalls Feeling 'Scared' Of Aunt Julia Roberts' Fame: 'I Saw Very Up Close'
Emma Roberts recently opened up about her aunt, actress Julia Roberts and shared how she would feel scared of her fame.

The world is aware of Emma Roberts’ relationship with Hollywood star Julia Roberts. Making her acting debut at the age of nine with Ted Demme’s Blow, Emma is very close to her aunt, Julia Roberts and would spend a lot of time on the sets of her films. Inspired by her aunt’s work, Emma chose to follow in her footsteps and she has truly made an impression. However, it wasn’t easy, as she too had been a victim of “nepotism” in the industry. On the Table for Two podcast, the Scream 4 actor opened up on how it was a “really scary” experience for her to see her aunt’s fame.

“I saw very up close what that really looks like with my aunt Julia. It’s fun and it’s great, but there is a part of it that’s really scary,” she said. The actress also shared that she always aspired to create her own path instead of just following her Oscar-winning aunt. “Fame has never been the goal, because fame at a certain level is kind of scary,” she continued.

Emma went on to explain how she never wanted her fame to outweigh her work, adding, “There’s nothing scarier to me than being so famous that you’re never left alone, but also you’re not getting good jobs.”

Emma Roberts On Being Called A ‘Nepo Kid’

Being the relative of not one but two famous actors, including her father, Eric Roberts, and aunt Julia Roberts, Emma often has to deal with “nepo-kid” accusations in her career. Weighing on it once again, the actress said that one needs to prove oneself, especially when he/she comes from an influential family. She also argued that those who criticise nepo kids only see their “wins” and not the rejections that they face all along.

“Everybody loves this kind of overnight success story. And so if you’re kind of not the girl from the middle of nowhere that broke into Hollywood, there’s kind of an eye roll of like, ‘Well, your dad was this. I always joke, ‘Why is no one calling out George Clooney for being a nepo baby? Rosemary Clooney was an icon.’ I feel like young girls get it harder with the nepo-baby thing. I don’t really see people calling out the sons of famous actors, not that they should be called out,” she added.
