Cher has reportedly decided to withdraw her request for the conservatorship over her son, Elijah Blue Allman. Nearly nine months after the 78-year-old singer initially filed for the conservatorship, citing concerns about her son’s alleged substance abuse, it has now been confirmed that they have come to a private agreement. “The team successfully defended Elijah, resulting in Cher voluntarily dismissing her petition. This outcome allows the parties to focus on healing and rebuilding their family bond, a process that began during mediation and continues today,” Allman’s attorneys, Avi Levy and Steven Brumer from Cage & Miles, LLP, reportedly shared.
Court documents from the Los Angeles Superior Court, previously accessed by People, show that Cher initially argued that a conservatorship was “urgently needed … to protect Elijah’s property from loss or injury” due to his alleged “severe mental health and substance abuse issues,” which, she believed, left him unable to manage his assets.
Cher also raised concerns about Elijah’s wife, Marieangela King, being unfit to act as his conservator, claiming their relationship was fraught with “a cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises.”
She further contended that “any funds distributed to Elijah will be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk,” reported People.
Rolling Stone said that Cher’s son’s lawyer, Gabrielle Vidal, confirmed that they “privately resolved this matter” and that Cher wished to withdraw her petition without prejudice, which leaves her the option to refile if necessary, in the future.
Cher had originally filed for the conservatorship in December, followed by a request for an immediate temporary conservatorship in early January, which a judge denied, citing insufficient time for Elijah’s legal team to review the documents.
A second request for temporary conservatorship was reportedly filed later in January and was denied again. The judge noted that Elijah had shown he was managing his finances and had maintained sobriety, supported by “several drug tests,” as reported by People.
In May, Cher and her son Elijah reportedly participated in a private mediation, where they agreed to “pause all legal proceedings and related activities, including all discovery and motion practice, to allow the Parties to continue working together to privately and confidentially resolve this matter.”
Elijah Blue Allman, 48, also known as P. Exeter Blue I, is a popular American musician. He is the son of singer Cher from her second husband, Gregg Allman. Elijah got married to singer Marieangela King in 2013.
