One of the most popular genres that has been gaining the attention of the masses is films that are based on true stories. One such film is The Diary of West Bengal, which has become quite a hit and is reportedly quite close to recovering its filmmaking budget. The film directed by Sanoj Mishra hit the theatres on August 30.
Sanoj Mishra has become the talk of the town ever since his film The Diary of West Bengal has created a stir in the industry. It is the story of the state where there is love and on the other hand, violence is brewing in some corner. Now, this film is quite close to recovering its budget. As per reports, The Diary of West Bengal is made on a budget of Rs 5 crore. Till now it has minted just Rs 4.5 crore.
The Diary of West Bengal was released on 6,000 screens. The film was shot in various locations in Kolkata. As per the director, the film discusses a serious issue, hence the shooting itself was not so easy. A few scenes were also shot in the jungle. Reportedly, before the film hit the silver screens, the director was getting threatening calls regarding banning the film.
In an interview, Sanoj Mishra shared that amid the controversy, only Kangana Ranaut came forward to support him. Days before the release, Sanoj Mishra went to Kolkata after he was summoned by the police. However, upon seeing the situation and the controversies it created, he feared something bad would happen, hence, he immediately left the place. He had even kept his phone switched off so no one could track his location.
The Diary of West Bengal stars Yajur Marwah, Arshin Mehta, Gauri Shankar, Dev Fauzdar and others in key roles. A R Datta has scored the music. The trailer of this film was released on January 29, 2024, on YouTube. The film garnered attention after there were claims that it promoted enmity between communities and hence an FIR was registered as well. Following the controversy, it was allowed to be released only in Mumbai, Delhi and the southern states. It is getting positive responses from the people.
