New Delhi: Ace designer Ritu Kumar, who had designed an Indian suit for Princess Diana's visit to Pakistan in 1997, says a similar outfit could complement the late Princess of Wales' daughter-in-law Kate Middleton on her maiden trip to India.
Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate are set for their maiden visit to India on Sunday.
“The Duchess of Cambridge is a graceful, beautiful lady. Though I have no doubts that she will look gorgeous while in India, it will be so appropriate to see her in a similar blue outfit worn by her late mother-in-law, years ago,” Kumar, a fashion veteran with over 25 years of experience, said.
In images that are available online, Princess Diana looked simple and elegant when she wore Kumar's creation -- a blue suit and dupatta -- with Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan and his wife Jemima.
After flying to Mumbai on Sunday, the royal couple will travel to New Delhi on April 11. They will be in Assam on April 12 and 13 to visit the Kaziranga National Park and pay tribute to the rural traditions of the communities who live around the park.
The royal couple will travel on April 14 to the neighbouring Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan and return on April 16 to Agra for a visit to the Taj Mahal, a Unesco World Heritage monument, at the conclusion of their two-nation tour.
Kumar, whose association with the British royalty dates back to the 1990s when Princess Diana patronised her store at South Audley in London, feels a blue ensemble for Kate will look amazing during her Taj Mahal trip.
“When visiting the Taj, a blue kurta with a churidaar and long dupatta will be a bit more modern and will complement the Duchess’s sartorial sense versus the classic salwar worn by the late Princess,” she said.
