Squid Game Season 2 Release Date, Teaser: Christmas Will Be Brutal Courtesy Hit Korean Drama Series

Squid Game season 2 is ready to roll. The hit South Korean series, that debuted on Netflix in 2021, is set to return with an all new season this December. The makers of the Lee Jung-jae and Gong Yoo show have not only confirmed that Squid Game season 2 will premiere on December 26 (mostly likely South Korean time, which will mean a December 25 release in the US) but they have also dropped a new teaser. The makers have confirmed that they will return for season 3 and it will be the series’ last outing.

In the teaser shared on social media, a new set of contestants were seen participating in a game. The workers (or soldiers) dressed in red and black stood in the sidelines and watched those who fell on the running track and to their deaths. “It’s been three years. Do you want to play again?” asked the head of the soldiers in the trailer.

The new season will follow the journey of Lee Jung-jae’s character, Seong Gi-hun searching those involved in the making of the deadly games. The sole survivor of the series that played out in the first season marked his comeback in the finale episode of the first season and reconfirmed his return in a teaser launched earlier this year.

Speaking about the new season, Squid Game’s director, writer, and executive producer, Hwang Dong-hyuk said in a statement shared on Instagram, “It’s been almost three years since Season 1 was met with incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place. I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season.”

“On the first day we began shooting Season 2, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.’ It almost felt surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years, as well. Seong Gi-hun who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1 returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year,” he added.

“I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story. We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride. I hope you’re excited for what’s to come. Thank you, always, and see you soon, everyone,” he concluded his statement.

Squid Game was a massive hit worldwide, with the costumes from the show also going viral. The show for multiple awards, including 14 Emmy nominations. Lee Jung-jae, director Hwang Dong-Hyuk, and actress Lee Yoo-mi emerged winners at the Emmys.
