New Delhi: It's raining awards and actress Vidya Balan and Ranbir Kapoor seem to be at the receiving end for their breathtaking performances in 'Kahaani' and 'Barfi!' After grabbing the golden lady at Colors Screens Award, the two went onto win the awards in the best actor category at Zee Cine Awards as well. A dumb and mute 'Barfi!', played by Ranbir Kapoor, made many hearts melt with his outstanding performance, while on the other Vidya Bagchi of 'Kahaani' played by Vidya Balan brought forth the persona of a strong woman.
While the jury was serenaded by the performances of Ranbir Kapoor and Vidya Balan, the audiences opted for Priyanka Chopra and Salman Khan. The two went onto win the best actor award in the popular choice category for their performances in 'Barfi!' and 'Dabangg 2'.
It was not just in the Actors category that 'Barfi!' and 'Kahaani' were at loggerheads, even the directors of the film had to fight it out at Zee Cine Awards. Where Sujoy Ghosh won the best director for 'Kahaani', director Anurag Basu won the award in the popular choice category for his film 'Barfi!'
While the announcement of the awards kept the nominees on tenterhooks, the awards were high on entertainment quotient with some breathtaking performances by Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma. While Ayushmann Khurrana performed on the songs from his much-appreciated film 'Vicky Donor', Katrina Kaif scorched the stage with her moves on popular songs like 'Ishq Shava'. But, it was Shah Rukh Khan's performance with Yash Chopra's heroines- Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif and Karisma Kapoor that stole the show. In a tribute to Yash Chopra, King of romance Shah Rukh Khan immortalised love on stage with the Bollywood beauties who have worked with Yash Chopra.
In this attempt, Karishma Kapoor returned to stage after a long time to perform on her popular song 'Le Gai' from 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai' with Shah Rukh Khan.
Ayushmann Khurrana, who was much-appreciated for his performance in 'Vicky Donor', was able to transform the accolades into awards. He won the award in best male debut category along with Arjun Kapoor for his performance in 'Ishaqzaade'.
Even Yami Gautam of 'Vicky Donor' fame won the award for best debut female along with 'Barfi!' Ileana D'Cruz.
But much-appreciated films like 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Paan Singh Tomar' were left far behind the nominations as well as awards category. Tigmanshu Dhulia and Sanjay Chouhan went onto win only an award in Best dialogues category for 'Paan Singh Tomar'.
