HYDERABAD: India’s first climate change conclave to be held in Hyderabad will help raise awareness on alternative energy resources and improve the existing energy policies in the country.Climate change is for real and India, as a growing economic and industrial power, has an increased role in global climate change control. The Centre for Climate Change, Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), is helping do just that.The Centre is conducting India’s first international conclave and exhibition on climate change (ICCC) from October 12- 14 at the Hyderabad International Trade Exposition Limited (HITEX).Addressing newsmen here on Friday, president of the Institute of Engineers India G Prabhakaran, said, “The conclave will have a technical exhibition and numerous interactive sessions focusing on facilitating easier technology transfer and improved awareness on alternative energy resources.”The event is an exercise to reach out to the immediate problem of global climate change, he added.The theme for this year’s conclave will be ‘Clean energy and energy security’, and will see participation of eminent scientists, engineers, policy makers and technologists from 16 countries.In an exclusive interview with TNIE, Dr Shalini Sharma, head, Centre for Climate Change, ESCI & Secretary General, ICCC said, “The conclave will be different from other usual conferences in that the focus would be on generating ideas for easy implementation of the existing green energy policies.” Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy would inaugurate the conference while governor ESL Narasimhan would preside over the valedictory function.
