Wolf Menace In UP: Minor, Woman Injured In Fresh Attacks In Bahraich, 8 Deaths Since July 17
Authorities in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, are intensifying efforts under 'Operation Bhediya' to capture two man-eater wolves responsible for eight deaths and multiple injuries since July 17.

As the Uttar Pradesh Police and the forest department continue their search for two man-eater wolves in Bahraich, another child was injured, and a woman was injured in separate incidents of wolf attacks in the district.

According to news agency ANI, a five-year-old girl was attacked late on Monday while she was sleeping next to her grandmother at her home.

She was swiftly rescued and was admitted to a hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

Speaking to ANI, the girl’s grandmother said the wolf attacked the girl while they were asleep, adding, they did not have a door in their house.

One of the neighbours of the family said they were alarmed by a commotion in the vicinity and later learnt about the wolf attack on the child.

The neighbour also confirmed a team from the forest department arrived at the site. However, the wolf had been chased away by locals by then. The animal disappeared into the dark, he added.

Earlier on Monday, 45-year-old Suman Devi was found injured in a suspected wolf attack and was hospitalised.

So far, a total of eight deaths, since July 17, have been reported in Bahraich due to wolf attacks, while reports of suspected animal attacks were also received from the neighbouring Sitapur district.

Seven children were among those killed, and about 30 were injured, news agency PTI reported.

OPERATION BHEDIYA

The Uttar Pradesh Police and the forest department have launched ‘Operation Bhediya’ in Bahraich district to catch the animals, said to be behind several attacks on villagers in the region.

Meanwhile, ADG Zone Gorakhpur, Dr KS Pratap Kumar, told ANI that the entire area had been divided into seven parts and that a team was working in all bifurcations.

“Under a specialised strategy, the forest department is implementing a program in which the police department would also cooperate. The whole area has been divided into seven teams. Every Gram panchayat has also been given a police team. Surely, we will be successful soon,” he said.
