A wholesaler was fatally shot and the money he was carrying in a bag was snatched away by two persons on a motorcycle in Jamshedpur, police sources said on Saturday.

The wholesaler, 45-year-old Vinod Agarwal, was returning home after closing his shop in Parsudih Mandi last evening when two persons on a motorcycle shot him thrice and snatched away his bag containing Rs four lakh near a roundabout, the sources said.

Agarwal was rushed to the Tata Main Hospital where he died of his injuries on Saturday, the sources said.

The police recovered two spent cartridges from the scene of the shooting.

Senior Superintendent of Police Richard Lakra, who visited the spot last night, told PTI that four persons were detained for questioning. The police were searching for the killers.

The business community staged a demonstration during the day demanding arrest of the killers while the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) condemned the incident.

Vice-President of the chamber, Suresh Sonthalia, said a 48-hour ultimatum has been given to the police to arrest the gunmen otherwise the industry body would be forced to think of a future course of action.

Sonthalia said earlier another businessman Tushar Bagaria was shot dead near Modi Park in 2011.
