WATCH | Two Men Beaten Up For 'Overtaking' SDM's Car In MP; CM Mohan Yadav Suspends Official
MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the Bandhavgarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) saying "such behaviour with the common man in the state will not be tolerated"

A Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Madhya Pradesh was suspended after two men were beaten up on a road allegedly in his presence for overtaking his vehicle in Umaria district. MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the Bandhavgarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) saying “such behaviour with the common man in the state will not be tolerated”.

CM Yadav took to microblogging site X and wrote, “I have directed to suspend the Bandhavgarh SDM following the incident of beating of two youths surfaced. It is an unfortunate incident. There is a government of good governance in the state. Such behaviour with the common man in the state will not be tolerated.”

Quoting officials, a PTI report said police have registered a case against Bandhavgarh SDM Amit Singh, tehsildar Vinod Kumar, SDM’s driver Narendra Das Panika and tehsildar’s assistant Sandeep Singh in connection with the incident that took place on the outskirts of Umaria town on Monday evening.

A video of the incident purportedly showing two men being beaten up in the presence of the SDM surfaced on social media.

The video showed the men surrounded by a group of people including the SDM and being beaten up with sticks.

One of the victims, Prakash Dahiya, who sustained injuries on his head and elsewhere, claimed in his complaint that people sitting in the vehicle with “SDM” written on it got out and thrashed him and another occupant Shivam Yadav for overtaking.

The SDM earlier denied that the two men were assaulted in his presence, claiming that one of them was driving the car recklessly and was about to hit his official vehicle. He said that his driver somehow avoided a collision between the two vehicles.

Amit Singh further denied the involvement of people travelling in his car in the attack on the duo.

Civil Line police post in-charge Amar Singh said the accused were booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 294 (obscene act in a public place), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (common intention).
