The Vadodara district court issued the warrant and asked Mallika to appear before it on 19 August.

Vadodara: A local court on July 8 issued a bailable warrant against Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat in connection with an obscenity case.

The Vadodara district court issued the warrant and asked her to appear before it on 19 August.

Former president of the Baroda Bar Association, Narendra Tiwari, had filed a case and sought a non-bailable warrant against Sherawat over her 'obscene' dance performance at a New Year eve party held in Mumbai on 31 December, 2006.

Tiwari had filed the suit after watching Sherawat's performance on television channels. He had made Sherawat and the management of the five-star hotel, where the event was held, respondents in the case.

The court had issued summons to Sherawat last week to appear before it on Saturday.

Since Sherawat did not remain present in the court, Tiwari sought issuance of a non-bailable warrant against her.

However, after hearing the application, the court issued a bailable warrant against her.

The actress had been issued summons in this case in the past as well. She had moved Gujarat High Court seeking quashing of the summons. However, her plea was dismissed and she was asked to approach the lower court.
